This is an extension project that gave new life to an old building by expanding it horizontally. It is located in Janghak-ri, Dong-myeon, in the city of Chuncheon. It has been turned into a cafe and photo studio named Present Perfect. Janghak-ri is known for its gorgeous sunsets, and attracts many tourists every year. As the building is located on a side of a mountain, there was difficulty with the levels. However, we harnessed these geological features to show some unique views and were able to showcase nature's beauty at its best. The first floor of the original structure has been connected to the second floor of the annex, allowing the buildings to be structurally and physically separate but at the same time, look as though they belong to the same space. Further, we attempted to create the illusion of the buildings wearing a single piece of clothing, rather than having the structure serve the sole purpose of holding up the building. Above all, the design brings into the space the beauty of surrounding nature, with the trees, wind, and sunlight working together to offer an experience all visitors are going to wish to take back with them. A large window was cut out so that by stepping through the door, one would be faced with nature, and the blazing red rays may penetrate the building through the windows facing west.
