<Building Project>의 일환으로 만들어진 ‘Union’은 전통 한옥의 “공포(空包)”에서 영감을 받아 현대적으로 재해석한 작품입니다. “공포”는 전통 목조 건축에서 처마의 무게를 지탱하기 위해 사용된 나무 부재를 의미합니다. 이는 우주 상부나 추녀 장식처럼 보일 수 있으나, 실제로는 중요한 구조적 역할을 합니다. 또한, 그 결구 방식은 매우 독창적이고 인상적입니다. 이 프로젝트는 전통 건축의 기능과 미적 요소를 현대적인 시각으로 풀어내어, 전통과 현대가 조화를 이루는 새로운 해석을 제시하고자 했습니다.

‘Union’ created as part of the <Building Project> is a modern reinterpretation inspired by the “Gongpo” (the eaves structure) of traditional Hanok architecture. In traditional wooden architecture, “Gongp' refers to the wooden components used to support the weight of the eaves. While it may initially seem like a decorative feature, such as the upper part of the roof or the eaves, it actually serves a structural function, and its joining method is also notably impressive. This project offers a new interpretation that harmonizes traditional architectural functions and aesthetics with a contemporary perspective.

<Building Project> is a series of creations inspired by the combination of many forms, structures, and numerous layers that HYUNJONG KIM has experienced in architecture.
